William E. Canavan, Jr. “Billy” is a second-generation custom home builder with 35 years of building experience in the Hill Country. The majority of Billy’s subcontractors have worked with him since he began building. The loyal and established working relationship between a talented and skilled subcontractor and the builder is a large part of what separates a Buffalo Homes project from other custom home projects.
Billy and Mary Canavan have partnered together in Buffalo Homes to build premier custom homes in the Hill Country since 2003. Buffalo Homes received the President’s Award as well as the People’s Choice award for the Reserve’s 2005 Parade of Homes. The Canavans’ success and exposure from this Parade of Homes led to the opportunity to build a 20,000+ square foot custom home on a large ranch in Freer, Texas for a Southern Louisiana family.
The success of this remote ranch project and the owners’ expectations and demands for the highest quality in craftsmanship, material, and design-led Billy and Mary to industrial and residential building opportunities in Southern Louisiana with the same family until 2015 when Billy returned to Boerne to build custom homes and begin planning for the development of Durango Reserve.
Mary continued to project manage commercial and large residential job sites in Louisiana, South Africa, and Alaska for the same family until returning to the Hill Country in 2018.
The Canavans recently completed a 13,000 under roof square foot home on a ranch near Sonora, Texas for a Hill Country family’s second Buffalo Homes’ project. 2021 brought the beginnings of an 8,000 square foot home in Comfort, Texas. This customer was referred by relatives of a recent 14,000 square foot Bandera home completed in 2017.
The Canavan’s focus on building one to two custom homes at a time allowing them the flexibility to oversee each phase of the project personally. Each project exemplifies Mary and Billy’s commitment to excellence.
