Off to the Races
It’s summer in Siena. One minute on the clock, three turns around the Piazza del Campo, and colorful flags decorating the skyline. The Palio horse race has formally been a semi-annual tradition in Italy since 1482.
There are 17 jockeys dressed in 15th-century inspired garments, each one representing their community or “contrade” in Siena. Each contrade’s culture is comprised of history, art, museums, and church, which are reflected on the banners waved by the drummers and flag throwers.
The third stop on our world tile tour: The Palio festival in Siena, Italy.
Now that we know about this festival, it is easy to see the inspiration behind one of Tabarka Studio’s newest tile collections: Palio.
From left to right: Palio 15, Palio 16, Palio 11, Palio 3
The shapes, colors, and designs of each tile pay tribute to the ornate banners from the Palio festival. These hand painted terracotta tiles are a lovely fit for any room in the house. From laundry rooms, to backsplashes, to bathroom walls, the Palio collection will bring a sense of tradition with a modern twist to your home.
Whether you choose to go for the charcoal and white tones or the reds and royal blues, you will undoubtedly have a standout piece of art.
