How to Choose Your Grout Color

Reading Between the Grout Lines

Congratulations, you have picked out tile for your renovation, which means now it is time to select grout! What may seem like a minor detail, can actually make all the difference. Here are 5 ways to choose the perfect grout for your dream tile!

1. Contrast- dark tile with light grout

If you want your tile to stand out, we suggest going with a light and bright grout color. This will ensure that your dark tile makes a statement and acts as the focal point of the room. Whether on a wet bar backsplash or entire kitchen wall, this combination will get everyone’s attention.

This is another way to add a bold, timeless dimension to a room. Whether it is light penny rounds, white subway tile, or a classic calacatta, pairing it with dark grout is a beautiful trend that is becoming increasingly popular. This unique look is both unexpected and eye-catching.

3. Match- light grout with light tile

Matching your grout color to your tile color is a great way to ensure that the focus stays on the tile, rather than the pattern. The lack of contrast works incredibly well with neutral tile colors. For example, if you have white tile and want to keep it looking clean and polished, a white grout is the way to go.

This trend works particularly well if you want to draw more attention to other features in the room such as statement cabinets or unique hardware. There won’t be an overwhelming amount of noticeable grout lines, making for the perfect canvas for bolder pieces.

Keep in mind that lighter colored grout may show dirt more easily, so more maintenance is required to keep it looking clean!

4. Match- dark grout with dark tile

Pairing dark tones together makes a dramatic and contemporary statement. Not to mention, it is easier to maintain. If you decide that this is the option for you, try mixing up the tile glazes to add more depth and dimension.

If a stark contrast or perfect match doesn’t feel like the right fit, neutral grout is a fantastic option! They are a reliable choice that goes with any color of tile. Should you choose a neutral grout, take note of the tone. If the tile has cooler tones, then a cooler grout will look better and vice versa.
