Keys to Kitchen Design
At Palmer Todd we talk about how we stand apart, so you can stand out. So you may be asking: how exactly do we stand apart? Palmer Todd has a wonderfully unique business model, in which we unify the skill sets from our in-house team with the talent of our partners. Today we will be discussing how it all comes together.
One of the most frequent projects we work on is kitchen designs. While every kitchen is different, there are a few key elements that can take a kitchen from being good to great. Remodeling or building a dream kitchen can feel daunting with the copious amount of choices to make. From cabinet finishes, drawer inserts, paint, tile, layout; the list goes on and on! Today we will hone in on just three crucial details to make the process easier. This brings us to our first key element:
Work with a trusted designer.
Designers are invaluable resources to assist you throughout the entire process. When you enlist the help of a professional, you can confidently rest in the fact that you will be working with someone who knows the industry well. They know how to read and match colors, how to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing space, and have knowledge of the right materials to use. Here at Palmer Todd we collaborate with numerous interior designers, but also offer in house assistance. As always: we stand apart, so you can stand out.
Both of our owners, Christi Palmer and Lynley Bravo, have exceptional credentials in this field. Christi is both a Registered Interior Designer (RID) and Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD). It is incredibly rare for someone to possess and maintain both certifications!
Meanwhile, Lynley is a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD). In fact, she is the only Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer in San Antonio, Texas. Certified Kitchen and Bath Designers specialize in design, planning, and the execution of residential spaces. Furthermore, they have extensive knowledge in building codes, appliances, and mechanical systems. Finally, they know how to design in a way that is easily interpreted by plumbers, installers, and electricians alike.
Together, Christi and Lynley have nearly four decades of highly qualified certifications that exceed industry expectations.
2. Implement functional design.
Ensuring that your kitchen fits with your lifestyle is absolutely crucial. Before embarking on the project, it is important to ask yourself questions such as the following:
Do I like to entertain guests?
Do I want this to be a place to simply prepare meals or a place where the family will spend most of their time together?
How much room do I need to prepare food?
It’s best to talk with an industry professional at the beginning of the process, which will also save you time and money! The best spaces are always as functional as they are beautiful.
Plan for adequate storage
1. If you use appliances regularly, think about the most convenient places to access them. Many of our clients use Vitamix blenders, so we intentionally plan for them to be able to fit comfortably on countertops.
2. If you are somebody who enjoys preparing food often, having sharp knives ready to go might be a priority. In this case, it would be ideal to have a knife insert built into your countertop.
3. Lastly, if you are worried about having enough space for pots, pans, and other kitchen gadgets, we suggest utilizing custom storage for blind corners. This is a great way to create more space and easy access.
